Starfield map usage when navigating

A big prob I'm having is needing to go back to the map all the time when navigating. Is there a better way?

I thought the same until I realized you can navigate to waypoints direct from the HUD. Line up the waypoint in the center of the HUD when in the cockpit and press the E key to target it then use the R key to make the jump to the location. Saves a lot of time not having to use the map.
