Selling items to vendors prices typically lower than value?

I noticed I never get the full price value of an item from vendors. Is there a reason for this? Am I missing something?

Vendor prices tend to fluctuate depending on the vendor but the price you see is usually the max value of the item and vendors never buy items for that price, it seems to be always lower.
